Feeling uninspired at work? Get moving!
It’s no secret that many Americans are feeling unmotivated and unproductive at work these days. According to a recent survey, a whopping 38% of respondents have never felt more uninspired at work than they do now. This lack of inspiration direct impacts productivity, with another 38% admitting to feeling only somewhat productive.
So, what’s causing this productivity slump? The survey revealed that our work setting and routines play a significant role. Thirty-seven percent of those with a work routine consider it to be stale, especially those who work fully in person. But it’s not just the physical space; the people and community around our workspace also have a profound effect on our productivity.
The good news? The survey found that physical activity can be a game-changer. Sixty-four percent of respondents believe that being active would significantly improve their ability to be more productive at work. And when respondents find themselves in a rut during the workday, they turn to physical activities like going for a walk or exercising to boost their mood.
This suggests that offices could improve productivity by providing in-house activity rooms, walking tracks, or other means for employees to take fitness breaks. Prior research has shown that simple hacks like taking the stairs or heading outside for a nature walk can solve the productivity problem.
So, if you’re feeling uninspired or unproductive at work, it might be time to get moving! Take a break to go for a walk, hit the gym, or even just stretch at your desk. Your mind (and your boss) will thank you for it.
