AI is here — and it can help with recruiting

Like everyone, I see articles every day on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it’s going to change the way we hire, work – and live! While it’s easy to get caught up in the negative, I think there are a variety of ways AI can help recruiters find the talent they are looking for. Here are just a few:

  • AI can speed up the time to perform a task. It enables technology to do some of the small tasks while employees focus on more complex tasks. Can AI help you take a “yes, interview” response from a hiring manager to a set-up interview without multiple clicks, emails, and delays for responses?

  • AI operates 24x7 without interruption or breaks and has no downtime. The reality is candidates often have time to devote to job-search tasks when recruiters aren’t online or available. Can AI help answer basic questions, do the initial resume review, and schedule an initial conversation with a recruiter to make your recruiters more productive? My dream was always to come in on Monday with screening interviews already scheduled from those who engaged with postings over a weekend!

  • AI augments the capabilities of differently abled individuals. The technology could be a game changer for diversity and inclusion initiatives and ensuring your organization is ready for this new type of applicant.

  • AI facilitates faster, smarter decision-making processes. AI can assist with “totaling” years of experience across multiple jobs for recruiters or looking for relevant resumes and experiences of those that have previously applied and putting them to the top of the list. However, it could be problematic if it somehow learns the biases of recruiters and hiring leaders. Strict controls, verifications, and human oversight and intervention will be necessary.

With any new tool or technology, the best approach is not to fear or avoid it but to find the positives and how to effectively include them in your process. AI is here. Now, it’s our job to put it to work to make the hiring process more inclusive, fairer, and better for candidates, recruiters, and hiring managers.
